8 Months Old

McCoy James :: 8 Months

Growing boy! Getting a picture of him laying down these days is no easy task. As soon as I put him down he was trying to sit up. I was surprised I even got a good picture this way.

McCoy has changed so much over the last month. It seems like he went from being a baby to being a big boy in a matter of weeks. We went swimming today when Zach got home from work and while the big boys were running around and jumping in over and over again, I put McCoy into a float that he sits down in and it has an inflated part all the way around him and then netting attaching it to another inflated part plus a canopy over him. I mentioned to Zach how I didn't remember the big boys trying to climb out of the floats at such a young age. They used those same floats last summer when they were a year old. He mentioned how they didn't have older brothers running around having fun so they didn't know any different. I think him having older brothers is making him move a little more quickly and this momma ain't liking that!

Nickname: Let's just put it this way. The child responds to "Biggun" more than he does "McCoy".
Weight: He hasn't been weighed since his 6 month appointment and doesn't go back until his 9 month appointment. I'm guessing he's somewhere around 22lbs.
Length: Not sure. I think he was 28" at 6 months.

What has Biggun been up to lately?
- Currently has 6 teeth (3 on top, 3 on bottom) and 2 more (1 on top, 1 on bottom) about to cut through.

- Eating solids like a champ. He eats pretty much anything we eat (minus honey).

- I had gotten into a bad habit of letting him stay up late. Instead of nursing him and putting him straight to bed, if he didn't seem super sleepy, I would let him roll around in our bed or play and then he'd end up staying up until 9:30-10pm. This past week I said enough is enough and started putting him bed at around 8pm and if he cried, I'd let him cry for a few minutes before consoling him. Once calm, I'd put him back down and walk away. I gradually waited longer before consoling him each time. The first night I had to console him 2 or 3 times but by the second night, I only had to once. Each night has gotten easier. With the big boys, I did it a lot earlier but for some reason, this time around I was a lot more lenient. I'm not going to lie, it is so much easier to be lenient than with two at a time and a schedule hasn't been as crucial this time. We're getting there though.

- We moved his crib into our room because our original baby monitor that had multiple cameras broke and me, being the dummy that I am, ordered the wrong one to replace it which has been discontinued so we can't find another camera to go with it. Sooooo it is much more important to be able to see the big boys in their room. But, with the other bedrooms being at the other end of the house, I can't hear McCoy from our room sooooo, he's in our room……still. Maybe one day we'll buy a monitor so that I can hear him in the other lol.

- He is sitting totally unassisted now.

- He can sit up from laying down.

- He can also get into a bear crawl position where his hands and feet are on the floor with his butt up in the air. I'm not sure what he's trying to do when he does this but it's pretty funny.

- He tries to properly crawl sometimes but his army crawl gets him places much faster so he definitely prefers that.

- He loves water. He splashes like crazy in the bathtub, ocean, and pool and giggles like crazy.

- He's still a happy smiley boy but evenings can be tough for him. He gets tired and clingy on me so late in the day its pretty difficult to get anything done.

- He's walking all over the place in his walker.

- He has started trying to pull up on everything this last week. I even caught him pulling up on the big boys' bed the other day. I was changing Sanford's diaper and turned around to see him standing next to the mattress holding on for dear life lol.

- He used to love being in his jumper but now he doesn't seem to like it for more than a few minutes. I think it's because he prefers to move around and simply jumping up and down just doesn't do it for him anymore.

- He L O V E S his big brothers. He thinks they are just so funny and loves when they include him. Thankfully they love him too and love to play with him.

- He still loves to be worn. He likes to be close to Mommy so any way to do that is fine by him.

- It has gotten even more difficult to nurse him in public. Most of the time I try to nurse him in the car if we're out and about and even then, he usually only ends up getting a snack. He just gets too distracted and busy. It helps that he's eating more solids now though because he can eat real food to get him through until he can nurse in a more calm environment.

- He has pretty much grown out of most of his 12m clothes. Especially his PJs.

- Still in size 4 diapers.

- He loves to talk.

- He still doesn't like the bottle lol. He likes to play with it but won't really drink much from it. My parents will be here next week so I'm hoping we can really work on it then.

- The boy can make some goofy faces.

- He still has those beautiful blue eyes.

A typical day:
6:00am - nurse, back to bed
8:00am - wake
9:30am - breakfast
11:00am - nurse, nap
1:00pm - wake,
2:00pm - lunch
4:00pm - nurse, cat nap
6:00pm - dinner
8:00pm - nurse, night night

I cannot believe how much my sweet boy has changed over the last 7 months! He dwarfs that bear now!

7 Months vs. 8 Months

Sitting up looking like such a big boy.

I guess Mommy said something funny.

Sweet boy.

Bear crawl. Occasionally I'll look over and he's just hanging out like this.

The other day we were all in the big boys' room to change diapers (3 diapers at a time…fun fun). While I had Sanford up on the changing table, I glanced over and realize I had missed McCoy pulling up for the very first time. I was glad I had my phone on my hip so I could at least snap a picture of the final product.

Someone loves strawberries.

Devouring some oatmeal and Cheerios.

This boy is on the move.

When you're too young for pillow, sometimes you gotta improvise.

Sweet brothers!

Piggyback ride through Sam's. This is probably my favorite baby wearing photo yet.

After selling our Suburban a couple of months ago, the boys and I have been stuck at home a lot (not that I care to get all three boys out in this awful heat by myself) but we finally got Mommy a new ride! Now we at least have the option to go somewhere lol.
